PVC is short for Polyvinyl Chloride, which is a form of plastic which has a wide range of applications in numerous industries. PVC exhibits qualities like durability, cost-effectiveness and resistance to heat, water and many chemicals. PVC in combination with additives like lubricants, heat stabilizers, impact modifiers, plasticizers, biocides, smoke suppressors and UV stabilizers reflect a high durability which makes it highly appropriate for construction purposes.

PVC compounds

PVC plastic distributor companies provide customized PVC compounding option for various applications like wire & cables, Batteries, wind turbines, construction industry and many more. PVC can be used in most of the industries with a wide variety of formulations available.

Applications

Clothing:

PVC can be easily manipulated to obtain leather-like material which is popularly known as Rexine. This imitation leather has a wide variety of applications like material for jackets, shoes, pants, upholstery and many others. PVC fabric is widely used as it has a low production cost compared to its competitors like latex, rubber and leather, plus it is available widely. PVC based fabric exhibits properties like water-proof, long-lasting, flexibility, resistance to various chemicals. It also reflects a lustrous shine which is the perfect base for designers to produce innovative designs and styles while being pocket-friendly.

Pipes:

PVC is the most used material in piping industry. Pipes developed by PVC exhibit properties like sturdiness, lightweight and low-reactivity to various chemicals which makes them highly suitable for sanitary piping, underground wiring as well as the water-distribution system. As PVC pipes are rust and rot resistant, they are highly dependable and do not require frequent touch-ups.

Electrical Wires:

PVC plastics are great insulating materials for electrical wires and offer affordability as well as resistance to heat. They also have significant abrasion and solder resistance properties.

PVC Resins:

Polyvinyl Chloride Resins have different grades according to applications such as the Plastisol grade of PVC resins are smaller in size and contain surfactants while the Calendaring grade resins exhibit a tighter average particle size.

Processing of PVC Resins:

PVC resins are obtained through a hot-melting process which is accompanied by a mixture of formula-based ingredients with a dry-blend powder in the first step. PVC compounds are made up of PVC Resins, Stabilizers, colour pigments, lubricants and plasticizers. The compound technique of dry blending is used to prepare PVC plastic that is used for fluxing and forming.

The dry-blending technique involves the mixing of solids ingredients of the PVC formula along with the liquid ingredients which result in a free-flowing powder form as a result. PVC resins are fabricated by the use of plastisol technique which is obtained by wet-mixing of plasticizers along with other formula-based ingredients which carefully disperse the solid component into the liquid one in the formula. Upon application of heat, these resins are gelled together and fused followed by a consequent cooling.

The ingredients of a plastisol formulation are:

  • Blending resins.
  • Blowing agents.
  • Flame retardants.
  • Adhesion promoters.
  • Air release promoters.
  • Dispersion resins.
  • Viscosity modifiers.
  • Smoke suppressants.
  • Release agents.
